✔ Citizenship by Conferral: For permanent residents who have met residency and character requirements.
✔ Citizenship by Descent: For children born overseas to at least one Australian citizen parent.
✔ Citizenship by Birth: Automatically granted to individuals born in Australia to at least one Australian citizen or permanent resident parent.
✔ Must have lived in Australia for at least four years as a permanent resident.
✔ Must meet good character requirements.
✔ Must pass the Australian Citizenship Test (if applicable).
✔ Must demonstrate basic English language proficiency.
✔ Must pledge allegiance to Australia and its values.
⏳ Citizenship by Conferral: 6 to 14 months.
⏳ Citizenship by Descent: 2 to 4 months.
⏳ Citizenship Ceremony: Held within 6 months after approval.
After approval, new citizens must attend a Citizenship Ceremony, where they make the Pledge of Commitment to Australia. This is a formal step in becoming an Australian citizen.
